A New Year Resolution – Enjoy More Wine in 2013 Understanding Wines – We put the Fun in Fundamentals

We will taste a selection of Wines to Illustrate the Range of Wine Fundamentals

Been at wines for a while and want to learn more? Some folks have made wine a pretentious and intimidating topic. But shouldn’t we each enjoy wines by developing our own individual taste preferences? We’ll discuss those basics that you knew and maybe forgot, those topics that give you a framework to develop taste preferences.

We’ll discuss things like where wine came from and where wine is going. How wine is made and New World Wine vs. Old World Wine. How do we experience wines from a sensory perspective. How we taste vs. how the Sommeliers taste. We’ll talk Fundamentals. But We’ll Keep the Fun in Fundamentals

How to Taste Wines Like a Sommelier

They are Sommeliers. But when they pick up a glass of wine, what set’s a Sommelier apart from those of us who enjoy wines as an accompaniment with our dinner?

How can they, with a swish, a swirl, a sniff and a gulp conclude that “this is a red wine from the USA, California actually, aaaahh yes – I can detect that it’s from Napa, near Highway 29, from grapes grown behind the Oakville Grocery, in the shade of the Napa Valley Wine Train Billboard, yes – picked on the 3rd Thursday of the harvest, . . . “

Come and learn first hand about the structures and techniques that the professionals use when they taste and evaluate wines. We’ll share why a wine is given 95 points vs. those that are 85 points. You’ll learn the “language’ and “descriptors” that are used by industry professionals.
